The Art of Producing Podcasts

The Art of Producing Podcasts

There are several crucial stages in producing podcasts to ensure it engages listeners and provides an informative experience. I’ve been working in public relations for three years, and one of the most fascinating parts of my job is producing podcasts for clients, as well as for our agency itself. And people often ask me, “How do you do it? What is involved?”

As a producer, here are the specific steps I follow:

  1. Pre-planning
  2. Identifying podcast name, tone and overall theme
  3. Finding a music bed
  4. Picking a host
  5. Preparing bios for both the show and host
  6. Obtaining the right equipment
  7. Production
  8. Writing interview questions
  9. Booking the recording sessions
  10. Recording the session
  11. Post-Production
  12. Editing and enhancing audio
  13. Integrating the intro, interview, and outro with the music bed
  14. Mixing and mastering the audio
  15. Distribution
  16. Uploading the audio to your DSP (digital service provider) for distribution on platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube
  17. Promotion
  18. Increase listeners with paid and organic promotions

This is a general, step-by-step overview of my process when preparing and producing new podcast content for a client.
