Empowering Careers Through PRSA Membership
The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) has empowered over 30,000 members to elevate their careers by excelling in the PR field. With a diverse network of professional and student chapters, as well as special interest sections spanning from the U.S. to parts of Latin America, PRSA sets the tone for what it means to be a PR professional in the ever-evolving world of communication.
Resources for Career Growth
Established in 1947, PRSA is committed to helping members succeed by offering resources such as certificates, workshops, mentors, and more. Members benefit from opportunities to develop professional skills, enhance their careers, and expand their networks.
In addition to these resources, PRSA provides practical tools through career advice, resume reviews, and job listings, ensuring that members have a great chance at thriving in PR.
Industry Leadership and Ethical Standards
In 2008, SCG’s Executive Vice President Michael Cherenson was elected as the Chair and CEO of PRSA, and is now the New Jersey chapter’s Ethics Officer. Reflecting on PRSA’s impact, he says, “I don’t know if we would have a profession if not for the association shaping the industry.” The recipient of the 2024 Patrick Jackson Award for Distinguished Service to PRSA continued, “The Code of Ethics is the bedrock for not only the association, but the entire industry.”
The PRSA is built around ensuring that its members adhere to their Code of Ethics that sets the highest standards within the industry. From honesty to expertise, the Code of Ethics covers the bases of what is expected of a PR professional in order to be advocates and credible storytellers rather than biased promoters/spin doctors.
Education and Its Industry Impact
Providing opportunities for continued education leads to a better industry and benefits more than just the members. By promoting ethics, PRSA helps the organization that hires them and their clients as well. One member at a time, the PRSA is ensuring that the bar for PR professionals remains high and is consistently met.
SCG’s Account Executive, Lupe Dragon recently became a member of the PRSA and has been taking advantage of all the benefits that come with it. “I’m already learning so much from all the workshops I’ve been able to attend and it’s giving me knowledge that I can use to help my clients and colleagues going forward. I think every PR professional should highly consider joining.”
Staying Current and Connected
Having members of the PRSA working at SCG not only helps them to stay up to date on emerging trends and technology, but also helps the rest of the team do the same. Working alongside professionals that are connected to PRSA means the entire team remains informed on the latest trends in the field, allowing us to craft strategies that align with those of our clients, and maintain forward progress.
