CHALLENGE

Wildfire Defense Systems (WDS) is a national leader in private wildfire services, innovating the industry by combining professional wildfire consulting with federally-certified emergency response suppression services. As an industry pioneer, WDS faces the dual challenge of building employer brand awareness while filling highly specialized positions. These roles require demand experienced firefighters with NWCG certification, and completed Position Task Books for all prerequisite qualifications.

Given the seasonal nature of these positions and the requirement for candidates to relocate temporarily, recruitment campaigns must be launched well in advance of the fire season to ensure all positions are filled.

SOLUTION

To fill positions ahead of annual fire season, while building national awareness of organization and build candidate pipeline for future employment.  They were looking to hire 30 Engine Bosses.  Engine bosses lead a specific fire engine and the crew associated with that engine.

Our team conducted extensive research into the labor market to determine geographic areas for targeting based on candidate pool and willingness to relocate. SCG implemented a multi-channel approach to target experienced firefighters and highlight the benefits of the position and organization which included:

  • Social media content and advertising
  • Search engine marketing
  • Geofencing and geofarming
  • Indeed sponsorships

RESULTS

Since SCG began working with the PPD our campaigns have reached over 6 million people and have shown a 33% increase in applicants for the June – July 2024 campaign. We also showed a 7% increase in female and minority applications. These increases were well above client expectations.  Due to our extraordinary results, we launched our fourth campaign for PPD in September 2024.

Accolades
The new Mayor of Philadelphia, Cherelle Parker, and the new Police Commissioner, Kevin Bethel, both made special mentions of our latest campaign and how it has made an impact on the community and resulted in a successful recruitment effort.
