Customer Service: Similar Hats in a Different Environment

This year, I was honored to be selected to serve as a Poll Worker/Election Official in November’s general election. Being a poll worker allowed me to put my customer service skills as an Advertising Account Manager to good use when assisting voters coming in and out of the precinct. It was challenging work that took many hours of in-person and on-line training, but so worth the effort to use my current skill sets in a different environment. In my current position at SCG, I need to have strong multi-ta ...

Hallowe’en … and the thrill of fear

I suppose I can thank my father. Or blame him. From the time I was old enough to speak, and maybe before then, he began leading me along the boundaries of what I’ve come to think of as the Otherworld. It’s a place of unease, dread, or even outright terror for many. But through circumstance and perhaps a smattering of inclination, I’m at home there. It all began with the giddy thrill of fear – with the very first time my father shifted his gaze to look just beyond me, into a darkened hallway, and conto ...

World Mental Health Day (My Story)

World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against social stigma. This is my story. Since I was 15, I’ve been in and out of counseling. My anxiety disorder was diagnosed when I was a high school freshman, and that was when I realized something was wrong. Or, at least, that I needed help reshaping the way I think about the world so I could begin to feel better. Anxiety can be extremely debilitating, with constant worrying about things ...

International Podcast Day

A lot has changed, and quickly, in terms of the media that we create and consume. We went from radio and TV, CDs, vinyl records and so on, to being able to stream every medium possible in the palm of our hands. One new media that’s continues to grow in popularity is podcasting. So we’re all clear, a podcast – per thepodcasthost.com – is “an audio program, just like Talk Radio, but you subscribe to it on your smartphone and listen to it whenever you like.” Many of my friends have podcasts. Two of these ...

The Importance of the Intern… from an Intern

Any student past or present understands the importance of internships. As an Advertising major concentrating in Art Direction and Copywriting at Temple University, internships are a great way to build my portfolio and strengthen skills needed within the field. This summer, I worked as an Account Coordinator Intern at SCG’s Haddonfield office and will be continuing my role during my senior year this fall. Through working at SCG, I gained valuable knowledge and practical experience in the advertising indu ...

Declining Enrollment Gives Colleges and Universities Their Toughest Test Yet

Across the country, college and university enrollment has seen a noticeable decline over the last few years. In Spring 2022, there was a drop of 4.7% in undergraduate admissions compared to Spring 2022, which is equivalent to over 600,000 students, according to US News. Combining that with the drop that admissions saw in Spring 2021, college enrollment has seen an overall 9.4% decline since the start of the pandemic. New Jersey wasn’t immune from the enrollment declines, either. According to the Office ...
